When Visiting Niagara Falls, Don’t Miss The Maid Of The Mist
If you are going to be visiting Niagara Falls, taking an up-close and personal trip to the falls on one of the famous “Maid of the Mist” boats is an absolute must. The original Maid of the Mist, was actually a ferry service that would take passengers between the Canadian and American sides of the falls. But that was back in 1846 and there have been a lot of changes since then…

A few years after the first Maid of the Mist went into commission, the first Niagara Falls suspension bridge was built, which severely cut into the ferry’s traffic. Thankfully, instead of going out of business, they decided to turn their ferry service into a tourist attraction and capitalize on all the tourists visiting the falls.
Needless to say, that was a very smart move. To this day, the Maid of the Mist continues to be an extremely popular tourist attraction. They have even had their fair share of celebrity guests over the years including: Theodore Roosevelt (before he became President), Marilyn Monroe, Mikhail Gorbachev, the Duke and Duchess of York, Prince Charles, Lady Diana, Prince William, Prince Harry, President Jimmy Carter (with his wife) and many more.
The tour itself can be started from either the Canadian or the American side of the falls. The boat begins in calm waters and slowly makes its way toward the Horseshoe Falls (Canadian Falls). And don’t think you won’t get wet, because the boat takes you right into the strong spray coming from the falls. That’s why every passenger is issued a Maid of the Mist rain poncho…you are going to get WET!
So make sure you add the Maid of the Mist tour to your itinerary. If you’re going to travel all the way to see Niagara Falls, you might as well feel the true power of the falls themselves, don’t you think?
