Every year since 1949, the week-long Shediac Lobster Festival is held, attracting visitors from around the globe to the Lobster Capital of the World. There are daily lobster dinners you can enjoy as well as the “Lobster Eating Contest” held nightly. The lobster eating contest consists of a group of lucky volunteers who are chosen to eat three lobsters with their bare hands in as little time as possible.
The festival includes events for the whole family such as a children’s parade, magicians, a midway, races, a craft and artisan fair and of course fireworks. There is daily entertainment, from both national and international entertainers, that allow you to enjoy both Acadian and Maritime cultures.
While in Shediac be sure to visit Parlee Beach, Poite du Chene Wharf and of course get your picture taken next to the world’s largest lobster. The giant lobster measures 11 meters (35 ft) in length, 5 meters (15 ft) in width and is 5 meters (16 ft) high.
