The Strong Features and Undeniable Faithfulness of the Boxer
The dog is considered man’s best friend. Faithful, loyal, lovable and always striving to please. With so many different breeds to choose from, it’s understandably hard to pick a favorite. The Boxer definitely holds its own in the dog world. The strong, defined features and undeniable faithfulness of the Boxer make it one of the more popular breeds year after year.

As far as features go, a traditional pure bred Boxer is short-haired and has a blunt, almost square muzzle which makes them very recognizable. They have folds running down from their nose on both sides of the muzzle. Their lower jaw often extends out beyond their upper jaw in a cute sort of underbite. It’s all these features combined which make the Boxer an unmistakable dog.
The Boxer apparently gets it name from the fact that these dogs tend to stand up on their hind legs as if they were “boxing” with their front paws. The Boxer was originally bred from the English Bulldog and Bellenbeiser (or German Bulldog). Early on Boxers were docked and cropped as part of the standardness of the breed. And while that standard is still in place in some countries, thankfully many other countries have outlawed the practice of cropping the dogs’ ears and docking their tails.
Some of the best characteristics of the Boxer include their strength, their energy and playful nature, their eagerness to learn and please, their intelligence and true affection, etc. Their ability to bond with people makes them great family dogs, when trained and socialized well. They are however leery of strangers, but will stand strong to protect their owners so make good guard dogs.
One thing to keep an eye out for is unless Boxers are given sufficient exercise and activity, they can quickly fall into digging, chewing and other boredom-associated behavior. They are also known to be very headstrong, but positive reinforcement works wonders with them.
Put all these factors together and you have a very lovable dog. One who is strong and sturdy both in build and mind, undeniably faithful and a true companion.
