The Lovable, Always Faithful Golden Retriever
One of the best things about the Golden Retriever is their friendly, lovable manner. They always want to make you happy and are faithful beyond belief. Originally bred as gun dogs, Golden Retrievers have rapidly moved their way into people’s hearts. Like the Black Lab, the Golden Retriever is now considered one of the most popular breeds in many countries around the world.

Golden Retrievers typically love water and would enjoy nothing better than the spend an afternoon romping and playing with you in a local stream. Thankfully they have both an inner and an outer coat which help to keep them warm. As their name indicates Golden Retrievers come in a variety of shades of gold.
They are typically very smart dogs and as such have often been chosen to be guide dogs, hunting dogs, search and rescue dogs, hearing dogs, etc. They are gentle, compassionate and easily trained to perform these types of duties.
The original Golden Retriever was developed in Scotland around 1868 and was reportedly a mix between a yellow retriever and a Tweed Water Spaniel. While the Tweed Water Spaniel has since become extinct, the breed lives on through the Golden Retriever (or Goldie). At one point it was speculated that sheepdogs were part of the original cross-breeding, however that has since been disproven. The Golden Retriever is a sporting dog through and through.
As mentioned early, they have wonderful personalities. They are kind, friendly, lovable, intelligent, agile, eager to please, playful and great around kids and adults alike.
