Explore the Mysteries of The House on the Rock in Spring Green WI
The House on the Rock is not your typical family dwelling in Spring Green, Wisconsin or in any town for that matter. The House on the Rock is a pure architectural masterpiece. Designed and built by Alex Jordan, the inspiration for the house is rumored to have come from a meeting between Alex Jordan Sr. and Frank Lloyd Wright back in the early 1900s.

The original “House” sits on top of Deer Shelter Rock, a rock column that stands about 60 feet tall and is approximately 70 feet x 200 feet on the top. The House on the Rock overlooks Wyoming Valley and the rest of the stunning property which continued to be expanded over the decades and now consists of many amazing buildings, streets and gardens.
The House on the Rock first opened in 1959 and is considered a must-see tourist attraction. Some of the more memorable features at the attraction include: the waterfalls and gardens, a three-story bookcase filled with rare books, a re-creation of an early 20th century American town, a 200 foot model of a whale-like creature, a truly impressive collection of automated music machines, “the world’s largest indoor carousel” and perhaps the most stunning of all, the “Infinity Room”.
In my opinion, the “Infinity Room” is the perfect description for this room which reaches 218 feet out from the house over the Wyoming Valley. The room itself is made up of 3,264 windows allowing visitors to truly embrace the breathtaking views all around them. And if you are feeling particularly daring, there is a glass cocktail table in the room which allows you to look 156 feet down to the forest floor.
