Cosmopolitan (Cosmo) Martini: How to Make and Serve
The Cosmopolitan, or “Cosmo”, while rumored to date back all the way back to the mid 1800s didn’t actually acquire its massive following until the 1990s. Because it was the drink of choice for Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw (played by Sarah Jessica Parker), anyone who was familiar with the show soon became familiar with the Cosmopolitan.

One of the most common misconceptions about the Cosmopolitan is that, because it is served in a martini glass, it is a variety of the classic martini. It isn’t. The Cosmopolitan doesn’t contain a drop of gin or vermouth. It is more closely related to the James Bond famed “vodka martini”.
While there are many different variations of a Cosmopolitan, they are all very similar in nature. So, here’s a basic Cosmopolitan recipe to satisfy your taste buds…with a few extra tips to ensure you and your guests won’t be disappointed.
Ingredients:
4 oz. Vodka
2 oz. Triple Sec
2 oz. Cranberry juice
1 oz. fresh Lime juice
Directions:
Mix all ingredients in a chilled cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into 1-2 cocktail glasses aka martini glasses and serve.
Additional tips to help make your Cosmopolitan more memorable:
Pre-chill your vodka, glasses and shaker in the freezer.
Use a high-quality triple sec or Cointreau.
Add a thin orange peel twist to the top of each drink.

“Shaken, not stirred.” Just the way James Bond would like it.
