Blow Off Some Steam At Vancouver’s Gastown Steam Clock (w/video)
When you travel to Vancouver, BC, Canada there are many interesting places to go and incredible sites to see. But if you are looking for one of the most photographed and a “world first”, then head on down to Vancouver’s Gastown to check out the World’s First Steam Powered Clock. Originally built in 1977, the Gastown Steam Clock has been entertaining tourists and locals for over 30 years.

There are only a few steam clocks in the world today and this one, built by Raymond Saunders, was specifically built as a tourist attraction for Vancouver’s newly renovated Gastown district. And let me tell you, this clock is a true work of art.
The 19th century-styled steam powered clock is the perfect centerpiece to Gastown. Not only does it show time through glass panels on all four sides, but it has glass panels to allow people to get a glimpse of its inner-workings as well.
The steam powered clock lets off steam by blowing its whistle and playing the famous Westminster Quarters every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day. You’ll know where to go because crowds can be seen gathered around the clock waiting for it to chime. If you are there on the hour, then you’re in for a real treat. With the steam shooting high and the whistling blowing loud, the Gastown Steak Clock really knows how to ring in the new hour.
